February 2008 NEWSLETTER

Hi everyone. Well the weather has been cooperating a little bit with the North Country now if it would only cooperate with us that would be great!

I have a couple of events lined up. I'm sorry for the short notice but I was waiting to see if either one needed to be cancelled due to lack of snow. The first on the agenda will be a "Sled Sock Hop" to be held this Saturday, February 16th from 1-3pm at Sweet Inspirations restaurant in Fulton. There will be a DJ playing music and snowmobile trivia. There will be discounted food specials as well as free coffee and popcorn from 1-3pm. There will be doorprizes drawn every 1/2 hour with wonderful doorprizes donated by Advanced Auto of Fulton. Anyone is welcome to attend so please spread the word to family and friends. Keep your fingers crossed for some snow so we can all ride to this great event. It should be fun to visit with everyone and swap snowmobiling stories!!

The next event planned is a "Breakfast Club Ride" to be held on Sun., February 24th at 9:00AM. We will be eating a breakfast buffet at the Clubhouse at the Caughdenoy Creek Golfcourse on Co. Rte. 33. There are signs directing you there from the county trail. They also have parking for trucks & trailers. We will eat breakfast and then we will take off for a club ride. It is undecided right now as to where we will ride to. We can make plans while we are eating. The last time we did a club ride was March 12, 2005. We had 22 sleds turnout for that one. I think we are way overdue for another ride. Hopefully we'll get a good turnout this time too. The Clubhouse is also open every weekend (until the snow goes away) for us snowmobilers. Their hours are Friday 4-11pm, Saturdays 7am-11pm and Sundays 7am-7pm. They are open for lunch and dinner all three days. The breakfast buffet is on Sundays only. They offer breakfast on Saturdays too it's just cooked to order. Stop by and see them won't you?

Also, mark your calendars now for our "2nd Annual Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swap Meet" to be held at the Fulton Elk's Club on Saturday, October 4th. I'll have more on this in future newsletters as it gets a little closer and I get more information. Hopefully, the weather will be a little nicer than it was last year.

The next time you're out on the trails and go by our storage building make sure you check out the new map station built by Lysander Construction/Bruce Butler. It looks great and we thank him for doing this for us.

We held our January informal meeting at MoniRae's, which is the old Red Door North tavern. What a nice place it is. They are open to snowmobilers and offer food and drinks. They fed us free pizza for our meeting. We really appreciated their hospitality. Why not stop in and see them on one of your outings?

Well I guess that's going to do it for now. So until next month take care and happy snowmobiling!

NOVEMBER 2007 NEWSLETTER

Hello everyone. I hope this finds everyone getting into the snowmobiling spirit! The weather sure is turning in the right direction for us!

The first thing on the agenda is our bowling party. IT IS CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF PARTICIPATION. I only had one reply. We can reschedule it for sometime in January or February and possibly ride our snowmobiles there if we have snow! If anyone still has the itch to bowl there is a bowling fundraiser for Paige Calderwood Racing. Paige was the 06-07 Rock Maple Racing Circuit Women's Point Champion. The "Strikes for Sno-Cross" event will be held on Sat., Nov., 24th from 9pm to Midnight at the Bowl Inn, Phoenix, NY. The cost is just $10.00 per person and this covers the shoes and bowling. If anyone is interested please call 263-0189 to reserve your spot today. Help send Paige soaring across the finish line and into first place again this year.

Next on the agenda is the Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swap Meet that was held on Saturday, October 27th at the Fulton Elks Club. We did really well on this event considering it poured all morning and half the afternoon was heavy showers! We had some who traveled from the other side of Rochester and as far as Canada to display their sleds and they endured the rain the whole time! We sincerely thank them for their dedication and appreciate them making the trip. We had a wonderful couple with seven vintage Polaris sleds that wanted to thank us for having a fun time! We are definitely the ones that should be thanking them. We really enjoyed having them there and we hope they will come back again next year. We hope all the participants had a great time and will come back next year. Thanks to Jim Latino for putting together such a wonderful show (and your brother Tom too. I'm sure he helped). Thanks to the ladies behind the food counter for a job well done! Oh by the way, the homemade cookies were delicious. Congratulations to the winner of the 20" LCD TV/DVD raffle, Ardean Scriba of Cicero, NY. He purchased the ticket from Robin at Ingles Performance. Thanks for the support Ardean. We sure hope you're enjoying your new TV! Thanks to Jerry and everyone at the Elks club for letting us take over for the day. We had a great time and will definitely be back! You can see pictures of the show on the website soon.

We will be holding a fundraiser night at the Fajita Grill in Fulton (Carvel Plaza) on Monday, November 12th from 5pm-9pm. You don't need to eat there you can get dinner to go. The club will receive 10% of ALL sales made during 5pm-9pm, including take out. Check them out at www.fajitagrill.com or call 598-5760 for the pick-up window. I know I hate to cook on Mondays, do you? Come support the club and give yourself a break!

We will be having a FREE Youth Snowmobile Safety Course on Saturday, December 8th at the Town of Schroeppel town office building on Route 57A in Phoenix. It will be held from 9am-5pm and is open to children 10-17. Adults are welcome to take the course also. Students must bring a bag lunch and beverage. Parents/Legal Guardians must sign child in at the start of class. Class size is limited to 30 students so contact me at fastsecretary@aol.com or 592-5408 to make your reservations today. You can also contact the Town of Schroeppel directly at 695-2801.

We have some Snowmobile Raffle tickets left but they're going FAST so if you want yours contact Bruce Butler at lysfenceman@aol.com or 678-2106. The drawing will be held on Tues, Dec., 12th so hurry. We will be offering a winner's choice of a Polaris or Ski-doo (courtesy of Ingles) or an Arctic Cat (Courtesy of Wheel-A-Way). Well, that's it for this month. Next meeting is Tues., Nov., 13th, 7:30 at RFH'S. Until next month, take care.

JANUARY 2008 NEWSLETTER

Hello there. I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season. I hope the snow we received in the middle of December isn't all we're going to get for this season. We'd love to plan some club rides this year if the weather cooperates with us.

First I'd like to take a moment to welcome all of our new club members. Thank you for choosing our club. We appreciate your support. I also want to welcome back all the renewing club members. We still appreciate your support too and are happy you chose our club again. Membership is well over 400 at this time!!

We held our annual Winner's Choice Snowmobile Raffle on Tuesday, Dec., 11th. We had a great turnout again this year. The winner was our ex club president, Paul Calderwood. Congratulations Paul. Paul is a Ski-doo man so thank you to Ingles Performance for providing the Ski-doo snowmobile. We also held another LCD TV raffle with the winner being Mike Potts, which is one of our landowners. Congratulations

Mike, hope you're enjoying it! We also held two 50/50 raflles with club member Lynn Foster winning both of them ($125 and $113). I'm sure it was a good Holiday Season in the Foster household this year!! I'm still waiting for my drink though Lynn!! Thanks to Robin Ingles and Lynett Greco for selling all the raffle and 50/50 tickets. Thanks to Ingles, Lysander Construction and Hoffman Integrated Systems for the donations of doorprizes. We really appreciate it!!

We had a nice turnout for the youth snowmobile safety course held Sat. Dec. 8th at the Town of Schroeppel office building on Route 57A in Phoenix. There were 25 in attendance, 22 youth and 3 adults. I have to give a huge THANK YOU to Cathy House for helping me teach the course. All of the students passed and received their temporary certificates. Speaking of Cathy House, congratulations go out to her and Danny on the birth of their newest granddaughter. Little "AJ" was born on Mon., Dec. 3rd to son Danny, Jr. and wife. When I say Little "AJ" I mean it literally. She came in weighing 5lbs. 8oz! Grandma and Granpa will have her on a snowmobile in no time, too bad it will be an Arctic Cat! Just Kidding! You know that comment comes with love!

There will be a trail duty this Saturday, January 12th to put signs and posts up to mark the trails. We will be meeting at our storage container on East Mud Lake Road (Bruce Butler's). Volunteers are desperately needed. Many hands make minimum work. Won't you come and help? Everyone that works a trail duty will have lunch bought for them after the detail, usually at RFH's. If you need any directions or have any questions you can contact me or Mark Greco (427-9689). Hope you can help out!!!

Well I guess that's going to do it for now. So until next month take care and Happy Snowmobiling!

The Treasurer's Report was read by Treasurer Dan Dievendorf with the past month's transactions and current balance reported. A motion to accept the report was made by Dan House, second by John Gilbert, with all in favor.

NYSSA: The letters being sent to the Assembly regarding the million dollar sweep are having an impact in Albany. We have been asked by NYSSA to stop sending in letters for the time being.

OSWEGO COUNTY SNOWMOBILE ASSOCIATION: The deadline to advertise on the maps will be at the county's July meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, July 16 th at 7:30pm at the American Legion in Williamstown.

TRAIL REPORT: The lumber for the bridge near Bruce's still needs to be picked up. We will contact Mark and have him pick up the lumber. We need to set up a trail detail for this repair soon before the landowner gets upset. We sent the Sterling Trail Tamers a check for the .4 mileage reimbursement regarding the Route 3 trail. There were four people that showed up for the Hot Dog Roast Trail Detail. The work was done in about an hour. Bill Paget calibrated the clutches on the groomer and they are fine now. We just need to keep up on the battery maintenance to prevent the need to calibrate in the future. We need to install some culverts and do some other work on the trails so we will be planning some trail duties at our August meeting.

OLD BUSINESS: Cathy House is still working on her large ride for next year. She is suppose to meet with Deputy Sheriff Robert Kite near the end of July to discuss her plans for the multi-club ride. If everything goes well she will file the ride with them then.

NEW BUSINESS: There will be snowmobile races at the Syracuse Nationals this weekend and also next weekend at ESTA Raceway. A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 8:15pm by Robin Ingles, second by Bill Paget with all in favor. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 12 th at 7:30pm at RFH's.

JUNE 10 , 2008

The Treasurer's Report was read by Treasurer Dan Dievendorf with the past month's transactions and current balance reported. A motion to accept the report was made by Dan House, second by Bill Paget, with all in favor.

NYSSA: The Senate Bill S8144 is expected to pass shortly and Assembly Bill A11009 is in Committee, but expected to move as soon as the Senate Bill passes. Email your assembly and ask them to pass the bill. The magazine “New York Snowmobiler” will be discontinued this coming season as the publisher gave a quote that was triple last year's cost. NYSSA will be looking into new ways to continue communication with it's members.

OSWEGO COUNTY SNOWMOBILE ASSOCIATION: The county will be printing their own maps this year. They are looking for advertisers on the map. The starting cost is $250 and that is for a business card sized ad on the back of the map. The deadline to advertise will be July 5 th . The next county meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 18 th at the River House in Pulaski at 7:30pm.

TRAIL REPORT: The lumber Is in for the bridge near Bruce's. Dan House will go and pick it up for us. The Sterling Trail Tamers Treasurer is stating that we got paid for more miles that we stated on State Route 3. We filed for reimbursement from Route 8 to Route 104 but they state that we were reimbursed to the County Line. Dan Dievendorf has checked the map and the reimbursement paperwork and we were reimbursed for 4 miles of trail. We paid them for 3.6 miles of trail. A motion was made by Mike Schmid to go ahead and pay them the .4 miles, second by Dan House with all in favor. There will be a Hot Dog Roast Trail Duty held on Tuesday, June 28 th at 6:00pm at the storage container at Bruce Butler's. We will be dismantling the sign posts and putting everything into the storage container. We will supply the hot dogs but you need to bring your own beverages.

OLD BUSINESS: Cathy House is still working on her large ride for next year. She is trying to come up with a good route to ride. If anyone has any suggestions please let Cathy know. She should have some more information for us at next month's meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: We have no new business to discuss this month. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 8:25pm by Robin Ingles, second by Cathy House with all in favor. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 8 th at 7:30pm at RFH's.

MAY 13, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:40pm by President Mark Greco. There were 12 people in attendance.

The minutes from the April 8, 2008 meeting were read by Secretary Denise Gilbert. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Mike Schmid, second by Dan House with all in favor.

The Treasurer's Report was not read as Treasurer Dan Dievendorf was unable to attend the meeting.

NYSSA: We had some discussion about the $1,000,000.00 that the government stole from our snowmobiling fund. Mike Fischer, the President of NYSSA has gone on TV and in the papers to fight this. They asked all club presidents to send a letter to their Senate and Assembly officials requesting that we are given our money back. We also discussed the TV interview between Keith Kobland of TV5 with a John Sheehan from the Adirondacks regarding the PAC funding from NYSSA.

OSWEGO COUNTY SNOWMOBILE ASSOCIATION: NYSSA wants to hire a public relations advisor/company for one year at the cost of $20,000/year. OCSA President Dan Middleton feels this is too much money to spend. Glenn Durham brought up the idea of buying a bulk order of special sized envelopes in order to mail our maps but he was told that the county would be making their own maps again this year instead of using Randy Freeman's map. The next meeting will be held at the Eis House in Mexico on Wednesday, May 21 st.

TRAIL REPORT: All of the signs have been removed from the trails. There was a water hole problem on the trail near Bankrupt Road but Mark had them shut the water off. We have another call into the County about fixing our bridges on the county trail but haven't heard a word back yet. The LMC was moved to the muck for storage. It blew a hydraulic line so it's still on the trailer until we can repair it. The track has worn cleats from some rough conditions this year. It needs some major TLC before next season. The Sur Trac is also over to the muck. We need to get a large tarp to cover it. It needs to be recalibrated before next year. We need to get started on clearing the power lines on County Route 8. There is a lot of work to be done. We should start at Best Drive and do behind Cali's first and work our way down to Route 3. The Sterling Trail Tamers are looking for more money from us for the Route 3 trail. They claim that the State paid us to the Cayuga County line instead of just to Route 104. We only applied for funding to Route 104. Dan Dievendorf said he would check into it but it may be possible that we were paid to the county line. There will be a Hot Dog Roast Trail Duty held on Tuesday, June 24 th at 6:00 pm at the storage container to disassemble the sign posts and put everything into the storage container. If we have enough people show up it shouldn't take too long to do the work therefore giving more time to eat and socialize.

OLD BUSINESS: The Appreciation Celebration that was held for Bomber went very well. They ended up raising over $13,000.00 for him. It was a constant packed house with the party going on well into the late night. They ran out of food early but that didn't stop people from going and having a good time anyway.

NEW BUSINESS: We don't have anything new going on this month so there was a motion made to adjourn the meeting a 8:40 pm by Lynett Greco, second by Cathy House with all in favor. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 10 th at 7:30 pm at RFH'S.
